La Luz De Jesus Gallery Presents Happy Spaces, a Solo Exhibition by Californian Pop Surrealist Zachary Benson Friedberg
Artist preserves and reimagines iconic Californian mid century modern architecture
Los Angeles, Jan 7, 2023 – From January 15 through February 4, La Luz De Jesus Gallery will feature international artist and painter, Zachary Benson Friedberg (aka Speczacular) for his largest solo exhibit to date. The exhibition, Happy Spaces, is a follow up to Relatively Quotidian, Friedberg’s sold out solo exhibit at the gallery in 2021. Happy Spaces consists of 21 new paintings that feature iconic Southern Californian mid century modern architecture with Friedberg’s surreal and futuristic twist.
“Themes of Streamline and Googie architecture, space travel, and alien worlds are brought together through a palette of colors that come straight from the T & C Surf catalog,” said Matthew Gardocki, Gallery Director for La Luz De Jesus Gallery. “Freidberg’s paintings are quintessential Southern California.”
“My favorite mid century modern architecture embodies an optimistic vision of the future where humankind takes its place among the stars,” said Friedberg. “My artwork aims to preserve essential representations of such iconic architecture, while reimagining these buildings on other worlds, among alien explorers, in alternate dimensions, and in a future where the promise of everyday travel to the stars is realized.”
Exhibition Details: January 14-February 5, 2023
Opening Reception: Saturday, January 14, 4 pm-8 pm
